Night photography is a popular branch of the hobby especially during winter months. The article describes a number of techniques for improving night photographs using the example of 20302/303 on a water cannon train at Worksop station. There are techniques suitable for all levels of experience - from beginner to advanced.
One technique worthy of particular note has been used to render the station lamps more accurately. Without special treatment the lamp “overspills” into the surrounding sky. After treatment the lamp “overspill” is reduced to proper lamp shape using software called Photomatix. You will need to purchase the magazine to see the details of how it is done.
